SUGAR GROVE – James T. Walton, 70, of Sugar Grove, passed away at Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was born July 13, 1943, in Chicago, and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1967 and worked at the Cambridge Electron Accelerator at Harvard University until moving to Illinois to work at Fermilab in 1970 as a physicist until his retirement in 2012 and continued as a guest scientist until his death.

He worked on many notable projects at Fermilab with responsibility for electrostatic Septa, the left bends and vacuum and leak checking. He was a high voltage expert and worked on separators, accelerator research and development, plus many other projects.

He is survived by his daughter, Aimee Snellback of Maricopa, Arizona and granddaughter, Jessica Snellback, also of Maricopa, Arizona, and grandchildren, Erynn and Connor Snellback of Benton, Arkansas; a brother, Michael (Ginny) Walton of Portage, Michigan; nephew, Michael John (Heather) and grand nephew, Nathan Walton of Richland, Michigan and longtime close friend, Mary Knoll of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Lorraine Walton.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31) in Batavia. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will be private.
