William Berry

William Berry

Passed away peacefully at his home June 27, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was a long time resident of Kalamazoo. Bill was born and raised in Chicago, IL by his parents Jay D. and Ora Lee Jones, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, then joined the United States Air Force. He worked many years in the automotive field, becoming a parts manager for Neil's Automotive. In his later years he worked in transportation for the Comstock Public Schools. He was well-respected for his reliability and work ethic. Bill found great enjoyment in traveling to Canada, where he and his family visited the sights of interest while camping. He especially loved to camp fires under the evening stars. He was also an avid reader and liked western movies. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 42 years, Denise L. (Reed) Berry; two sons, Dominic (Charlene) Turpin, of Minnesota; and Eric Berry, of Kalamazoo; one daughter, Stacey Berry, also of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Arman and Tristen Turpin, both of Minnesota and Latrell Berry of Kalamazoo; two sister-in-laws and a brother-in-law, Margaret Eversole of Caro, MI; Sheryl and Robert Ohmer, of Vasser, MI; and a host of nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held for the family at a later date. Arrangements by the Harper Funeral Home, 521 Douglas Avenue, 342-1000. As expressions of sympathy, contributions may be sent to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
