THOMAS, Donna (Gann)

Donna Thomas Gann, 73, died June 12, 2017 in Bernard, ME. She was born June 26, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Donald Gordon and Helen (Sare) Thomas. Her formative years were spent in Kalamazoo, MI. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1965 with a BA in English. She received an MA in International and Area Studies in 1968 from Western Michigan University, an MA in Anthropology (Archaeology) in 1976... from the University of Michigan and an MBA in 1984 from the University of Chicago. In 1977, she moved to Chicago, where she joined The Northern Trust Company. Donna and her husband Robert moved from Winnetka, IL to Maine in 2000 and in 2002 they completed their special home, which they designed. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Church in Bar Harbor. Donna enjoyed reading, needlepoint and designing and decorating houses. She also was devoted to classical music and was a supporter of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, the Bangor Symphony and the Arcady programs. She was a Hospice Volunteer for Hospice of Hancock County and was a member and participant of the Acadia Senior College. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 17 years in 2003, Robert Raymond Gann of Bernard. Although they had no children of their own, they enjoyed special relations with their godsons, Mac and Jesse Clevenger, and their parents Dale and the late Alice Clevenger of Winnetka, IL; with Lydia, Blake, Lizzie and Abby Hodges and their parents Tom and Gail Hodges of Evanston, IL and Bass Harbor, ME; with Stephen, Lauren and Claire Matic and their parents the late Greg and Karen Matic of Northfield, IL; and with Allegra Heinz and her mother Carmen Wilcox of Wilmette, IL. She is survived by Aunt Valda and Barney Sherrer of Mena, AR and their children Cliff, Jeree Hall and Janell Van Every; by Aunt Lu Quoss and her daughter Bernita of Dallas, TX; by Uncle James and Beth Gann and their son Bill and his family of Hobbs, NM; and by her brother, Terry Thomas, and her only niece, Isabella Isaacs-Thomas, both of Michigan. Donna was also blessed with, and her life tremendously enriched by, a large family of devoted friends. A memorial service will be held, 10:00AM, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 21 Ledgelawn Ave., Bar Harbor.
